Underfloor Heating FAQ
Q. What is Underfloor heating?
A. Warm water is circulated through a series of pipes laid in the floor at the time of construction. These pipes are of the highest standard and form a continuous loop between two central manifolds. Each room has its own circuit and is individually controlled, putting the heat exactly where you want it.
Q. What fuel does Underfloor heating run on?
A. You can use any kind of fuel to warm the water that circulates through the Underfloor heating system pipes.
Q. Will it work with my choice of boiler?
A. Your Underfloor heating system will have its own pump, temperature blending valve and flow controls. All it needs is a supply of warm water which can be produced by most normal domestic boilers.
Q. Why choose Underfloor heating?
A. Because Underfloor heating runs at a lower temperature than radiators, around 45°C, you’ll benefit from reduced running costs and higher efficiency. In fact you could see a 15-40% reduction in running costs! Unlike radiators there are no high temperature surfaces or sharp edges which can cause injury. The low floor surface temperature (around 27°C) results in an extremely comfortable, luxurious environment that is completely safe. For more information go Products>Underfloor Heating
Q. If I install Underfloor heating, what happens if there is a leak under the floor?
A. With Uponor Underfloor heating there are no joints under the floor, a continuous circuit of pipe is laid from the flow and return sections of the manifold. A high-pressure test (above the normal running pressure) is completed before the floor is laid. Our pipes are put through the highest possible quality control procedures, including high-pressure test for every metre produced during the manufacturing process.
Q. Can we use both Underfloor heating and radiators?
A. Yes, our control system allow for hotter water for radiators and towel rails, whilst warm water is provided for the floor system.
Q. Is Underfloor heating left on all the time?
A. No, we can provide controls that allow you to choose when you want your heating on, off or set-back (reduced temperature setting)
Q. Can you control each room?
A. Yes, you can; our systems can use individual room thermostats.
