Loft Conversion

Project

When you’re converting a loft space into an additional living area it is the perfect opportunity to consider your choices of heating system.

The owners of a large detached house in the upmarket area of St. Annes-on-the-Sea, Lancashire faced this dilemma when they decided to increase their available living space by converting their loft area into an additional bedroom.

Solution

As space in the loft conversion was limited they took the decision to install floor central heating, even though the rest of the house was heated through traditional radiators. Floor heating is ideal for loft conversions, where minimal wall space is available and total design freedom is required without the restrictions of radiators.

They decided to install OverlayTM, a revolutionary new floor heating system from Polyplumb; which is perfect for single room retro-fit projects and extensions. OverlayTM is quick and easy to install, and the system in St Annes was installed and running in less than two days.

The project was completed with minimum disruption to the existing heating and water supply, and was scheduled efficiently into the overall conversion project. One of the main benefits of the OverlayTM system is that it can be run in conjunction with your existing heating system and boilers – making it a perfect choice for loft conversions and extensions.

OverlayTM provides all the benefits of a warm water floor heating system, but without the disruption of having to dig up your floors – making it perfect for retro-fit projects and single room extensions. It provides a comfortable and efficient even warmth across the room; eliminating draughts and cold spots associated with radiator systems.

The owners of the house choose to finish off their new loft conversion with a modern wood laminate flooring. This allowed efficient heat conductivity, and, therefore, an effective heat output rate. OverlayTM can be fitted under any type of floor covering, including carpet, timber, laminate, tiles or vinyl. However, harder surfaces, such as tiles and slate, offer better conductivity, and, therefore, better heat output rates.
